NIE - (Foreign Identification Number)
What is a NIE ? A NIE is an Identification number for foreigners. It is a personal, unique number issued by the Foreigners Office in Spain. It is granted through following a specified procedure which fulfils the requirements established by the regulations for foreigners in Spain.
Foreigners require a NIE to perform transactions in Spain. For example, professional or economic procedures, such as opening a bank account or establishing a business, daily living arrangements, e.g. buying a home or a car, for any paperwork to be carried out relating to tax etc.
Obtaining an NIE: Our lawyers will be in charge of requesting an appointment at the Foreigners Office and preparing all necessary documentation and paying the corresponding fees.
Obtaining an NIE usually takes between 10 and 15 days from when the appointment is requested. Our lawyers go on behalf of the client to the foreigner’s office providing they have a power of attorney granted by the client.
Once the NIE has been obtained, our lawyers will keep the original paperwork at our office, enabling us to carry out procedures requested by clients. A copy will also be forwarded to the client, which they should bring with them whenever they visit Spain
